Admit it, heading outdoors to purchase food has become quite a daunting affair.
While many have begun opting to having food delivered via services such as Grab and Foodpanda, the idea of taking food from the hands of the riders can be quite scary.
Enter cute food delivery droids by Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Touted as Singapore’s first outdoor delivery robots, these droids were invented by NTU students under their startup Whizz.
These droids are remotely operated and require a loader to place the food into a cloth container once hungry students have keyed in their orders.
Through a collaborative effort with another student-led start, Welcome Cates, that designed a food order app for students to purchase from NTU’s canteen, Whizz’s droids are currently in their beta testing phase.
Hungry students simply have to download, register, and begin ordering their meals right away.
A Whizz personnel, stationed at the canteen, will then collect and sort the orders before loading the meals into the droids. Another personnel observes the entire process before taking control of the droid to send the food remotely.
According to Whizz’s website, the droids have served up to over 400 orders since they were rolled out in July, 2020, proving that contactless delivery via AI is the future.
