Remember the ugly and similar icons Google decided to shove into our lives? Of course, you do. You probably have one of them open on your browser right this very moment.
Don’t worry, most of the internet is very unhappy with this change. But your days of pain and suffering is no more. There is a Chrome extension out there that will revert the icons to the older ones you know and love.
The Chrome extension is called ‘Restore old Google icons,’ and you can find it on Google Chrome’s Web Store.
In case you’ve never installed any browser extensions before, it’s the simplest process ever:
Step 1: Head on over to the extension’s page here using Google Chrome.
Step 2: Once you’re there, hit the ‘Add to Chrome’ button and press’ Add Extension’ when the pop-up box appears at the top of your browser.
Step 3: Once the install completes, you’ll get a prompt that says the extension has been installed. A new tab will open, asking you to try it out by launching any Google apps that have had its icon changed.
But if you already have a Google app open on your browser, you will not see the change reflected. You don’t have to close the tab and reopen it. Simply refresh the page, and you will see the icon change.
So far, it manages to change the icons of Gmail, Hangouts, Google Drive, Calendar, and Google Docs
Currently, the extension only works on Chrome, but I’ve tested it on Microsoft Edge, and it seems to work with no issues.
The developer also mentioned that he is working on a similar extension for Firefox users.
Google, if you’re reading this, please reconsider the new icons. I just closed my email tab on accident, thinking it was a random tab.
